Hardcore STORYtelling with Annie Mok

This live, online  class swims into the deep waters of Robert McKee's book STORY: Substance, Structure, Style, and the Principles of Screenwriting. Taking examples from Ingmar Bergman to Casablanca to Satyajit Ray, the book delves into what makes a story pump through the beating heart of its characters' movements through the plot.

Students will be complete four homework assignments, making short one- to six-page comics that are either fiction or nonfiction short stories or scenes that make use of the principles discussed; or, Lynda Barry-like talking-to-the-audience comics reflecting on the information read. Students will be invited to read their comics homework publicly at a Zoom SAW comics reading on Fri. 8/27 at 8pm EST.

REQUIRED: Please purchase a copy, physical or digital, of Story by Robert McKee by the start of the class. It would be great for you to be familiar with part 1 of Story by the course's first class video meeting, but it will be ok if not!
